Chiefly Civil War letters of Horner, an officer in the 13th Regiment and later the 23rd Regiment, North Carolina Volunteers, describing the first battle of Manassas (Bull Run), picket duty, camp life, the scarcity of commissioned officers, and an army chaplain. Scattered letters before and after the war refer to family matters and his position as a schoolteacher in Oxford.
